The Hartford appoints Allied World’s Garrison as head wholesale for Navigators
The Hartford has hired Michael Garrison as head of wholesale for the carrier’s Navigators brand, effective 1 November.
The executive will report to Adrien Robinson, head of Global Specialty for The Hartford.
In his new role, Garrison will lead the strategic direction, growth, and underwriting for the business, as well as manage relationships with the company’s wholesale distribution partners.
Prior to joining The Hartford, Garrison was president, head of Global Construction and International First-Party Lines at Allied World. Before that, he served as president, Asia Pacific for the company and was based in Singapore. He also held stints at Starr Companies, where he worked as a senior vice president and chief underwriting officer.
Commenting on the hire, Robinson said: “Michael’s deep knowledge and extensive expertise in a broad range of specialty lines, both domestic and internationally, will be a tremendous asset as we continue to invest in and grow our wholesale franchise.”
“We are in the midst of an historic global market transformation, and Michael’s leadership will only strengthen our commitment and ability to continually provide valuable solutions to unique and complex risks in primary and excess casualty, financial lines, property, inland marine, transportation and environmental,” he added.
The Harford acquired The Navigators Group in 2019 for $2.1bn.
In September, CEO Christopher Swift said that the carrier has made progress in re-underwriting its middle market and global specialty books of business in the two years since its buyout of Navigators.
Earlier in June, The Hartford named Gretchen Thompson to run a series of specialty business lines including construction, inland marine, complex liability and media and entertainment.
The carrier also promoted Adrien Robinson, a navigators veteran, to lead its global specialty unit, replacing Vincent Tizzo, who left the business.
