QBE has appointed Chris Wallace to lead its UK insurance business after Cécile Fresneau was promoted to run European operations at the carrier earlier this year.

From the beginning of November, Wallace will work as executive director of QBE UK in tandem with his current role as executive director for Europe.

He will lead the UK and Europe businesses until March 2022, at which point the Europe role will be passed on to a yet-to-be-appointed successor.

Wallace has worked at QBE since 2008 in several senior positions and most recently has overseen the growth of QBE’s European portfolio.

Fresneau was promoted to lead European insurance at the carrier in March of this year, alongside several other senior management changes.

QBE is now led by Andrew Horton, who moved across to the Australian carrier after running Beazley for more than a decade.

Fresneau said: “Chris was instrumental in driving change across our European portfolio and has ensured our teams across Europe are on track to deliver their ambitious growth plans.

“We have a clear opportunity to strategically expand our business in the UK, and I have every confidence Chris is the person to help make that happen.”
