Aon UK’s global broking centre CEO Richard Dudley is to take on the newly created role of global head of climate strategy, Insurance Insider can reveal.

Dudley will work across commercial risk, reinsurance, health and wealth in the position, sources said.

It is understood the executive is transitioning away from his current responsibilities.

His successor as CEO of the global broking centre – Aon’s wholesale and specialty broking business within the London market – is not yet known.

Dudley has been in his current post for over five years.

He also became chair of the London & International Insurance Brokers’ Association (Liiba) in March 2020.

The appointment comes as (re)insurers and intermediaries alike place increasing emphasis on the need to plan for and mitigate the impact of climate change.

Aon CEO Greg Case is a member of the Prince of Wales’s Sustainable Markets Initiative Insurance Task Force, alongside AIG CEO Peter Zaffino and Munich Re CEO Joachim Wenning.

Case has previously cited climate, alongside pandemics, cyber threats and the growing socio-economic gap, as one of the most important emerging global risks.
