Castel launches in North American professional risks with ex-Pioneer team
Castel Underwriting Agencies has launched an underwriting cell to focus on professional service firms named North American Professional Liability.
The cell will write both primary and excess business for larger clients, including law firms, accountants, architects, engineers and construction risks.
It has secured capacity from an A+ rated carrier and commenced underwriting with immediate effect.
The business is led by Patrick Comerford and Clive Moore, former directors and underwriters for Pioneer North America PL.
The now defunct Pioneer failed to secure paper to write North American PL into 2020, prompting the resignation of Moore and Comerford.
Comerford previously headed up AIG and Lexington’s London market US professional liability team for almost two decades.
Moore previously worked at Brit at the carrier’s Lloyd’s US professional indemnity team.
Castel CEO Mark Birrell said: “Patrick and Clive are two of the best-known underwriters in this market.
“Working with them to help leverage their significant knowledge and experience demonstrates not only our appetite to extend Castel’s portfolio but also our ability to support a wide breadth of niche and specialty underwriting talent to deliver profitable business.”
