Scor chairman Denis Kessler has been named as chairman of the Reinsurance Advisory Board (RAB), a specialist representative body for the European reinsurance industry.

The RAB is represented by some of the largest reinsurers in Europe including Gen Re, Hannover Re, Munich Re, PartnerRe, Scor and Swiss Re.

Lloyd’s is also a representative of the body, which aims to stimulate an innovative and competitive reinsurance market across Europe.

Kessler previously served as chairman of the RAB between 2009 and 2010 and will take over the chairmanship from Swiss Re CEO Christian Mumenthaler, who has been in post for the past two and a half years.

Scor said the appointment came at a “critical stage”, as the EU reviews the Solvency II regime.

Kessler stepped back as CEO of Scor in June, a role he held since 2002, during which time he revived the ailing business and later fought off a number of hostile takeover bids.

He was awarded the lifetime achievement award at the 2021 Insurance Insider Honours at the end of last month.
