Aon has appointed Johan Forsgård from Willis Towers Watson to head up its Nordic region as CEO.

Forsgård has worked at the rival broker for the past 16 years, most recently leading its Nordic region, as well as holding the position as CEO for Sweden.

He will join Aon in the fourth quarter of 2022.

CEO of Aon Denmark and Nordic COO Allan Karlsen will continue leading the region for the next year.

The appointment follows the dramatic collapse of the proposed merger of the two rival brokers, after an intervention from the US Department of Justice (DoJ).

The merger would have created a $30bn global broking powerhouse but competition concerns, even after a large number of proposed divestments, led the DoJ to step in.

Rachael Ingle, sub-region leader and EMEA head of wealth solutions at Aon, said: “Johan’s immense experience and strategic vision will help ensure that our colleagues across Aon will be better positioned to help clients build more resilient workforces and make better decisions.”
