Marsh builds in upstream with Convex’s Burrows

Marsh has bolstered its upstream energy division with the appointment of Thomas Burrows from Convex, Insurance Insider has learned.

The move is a return to broking for Burrows, who worked for JLT between 2011 and 2020, before leaving for the Steve Hawkins-led energy team at start-up Convex.

The move comes as rating remains broadly stable in the upstream market, thanks to a combination of ample capacity and benign losses.

In a recent report, Gallagher said there were some reductions available on upstream business where market competition could be established, and placements remarketed.

Indications suggest that, despite passing over a lot of high-value oil and gas assets in the Gulf of Mexico, the recent Hurricane Ida is unlikely to prove a major loss event for the market.

Convex and Marsh declined to comment.
