Canopius Group has appointed Kate Roy, COO for Great Britain and Willis Ltd at Willis Towers Watson as well as a PPL board member, as COO.

She will start in early 2022, reporting to deputy CEO Neil Robertson.

During her 33-year career, Roy has held senior positions at AIG and Capita Insurance Services. She has also been involved on the PPL board since the platform’s inception.

The specialty (re)insurer cited Roy’s track record of delivering “complex and transformational operational solutions” across multiple geographies.

Robertson said: “Kate is hugely experienced across the gamut of global (re)insurance, with a firm understanding of our business and the markets we operate in.

“[She] will help shape our future operating model, and her energy and enthusiasm will be an asset to our positive distinctive culture and will undoubtably help us realise Canopius’ future ambition.”

In May, this publication revealed that former Canopius COO Laurie Davison resigned from the carrier, as did group head of central services Bev Tilman.

Davison had been in the post since April 2018. She joined Canopius from software company Exari Systems, where she was COO for less than a year.

The departures came ahead of an expected IPO for Canopius, which, in February, appointed Goldman Sachs and Barclays as global coordinators for the flotation.

Days later, however, this publication revealed that Canopius had decided to delay its planned London IPO until after the Atlantic hurricane season came to an end.
