Reinsurers’ estimates of their exposure to natural cat risk could be underestimated by as much as 50% as climate change enhances the risk posed by weather events, according to a report from the ratings agency S&P.

The report said that unmodelled risks and the difficulties in attributing extreme events to climate change means that climate change may not be fully reflected in models, especially in the short term.
