German insurer Provinzial has hiked its loss estimate from storm Bernd by at least EUR238mn, or 30%, since August, with the firm expecting further major loss creep, as losses from regional carriers have taken an extensive toll on reinsurance programmes.

After releasing a statement confirming losses had risen above EUR1bn, Provinzial told this publication that while it had confirmed EUR1bn of losses, it expected the figure would rise to EUR1.5bn.
