Haiti earthquake caused $250mn of insured losses, says KCC

The earthquake that hit Haiti’s southwest peninsula on 14 August is estimated to have caused $250mn of insured losses and $1.7bn of total losses, according to Karen Clark & Company’s (KCC) Caribbean earthquake reference model.

KCC said it expected the event’s impact to be “significant” but not as devastating as the 2010 quake that struck the capital.
