Generali P&C profits down 4% to EUR1.26bn as cat claims bite

Generali’s P&C division registered a 3.6% fall in operating profits in the first half of 2021 to EUR1.26bn ($1.5bn) as the carrier was impacted by catastrophes, while group operating profits rose more than 10% to EUR3bn.

The Italian carrier’s P&C unit was impacted by catastrophe claims of EUR218mn in the period, which surged 85% on H1 2020, as insureds were affected by storms in Spain in January and subsequent storms across the rest of Europe...
