Travelers Q2 cat loss adds less than expected to aggregate retention

Travelers has accumulated $1.5bn of qualifying losses toward its aggregate reinsurance retention of $1.9bn, adding $475mn of net cat losses in Q2 2021.

The pre-tax cat loss compared to $854mn for the same quarter last year, but the year-to-date tally has reached 79% of the way to the aggregate trigger.
