Severe flooding in Germany has now claimed more than 100 lives, with around 1,300 people missing and anticipated economic losses estimated in the billions of euros.

A report in Die Welt described severe damage due to storms in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, with local authorities paying out EUR50mn ($59mn) in short-term support to repair roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
