July renewals: Muted increases in the US while Europeans do battle over Covid

The July reinsurance renewal will be marked by mainly single-digit rate increases across the board, except where there are increased US Uri losses, while in Europe, reinsurers and cedants lock horns over Covid-19, sources told this publication.

While the picture on rate increases looks at first glance underwhelming, sources noted that in many cases contracts renewing had already seen multiple years of price hikes, adding that deceleration at 1 July was to be expected.
