Covea’s reported interest in acquiring the reinsurance operations of Axa XL could see a gain of up to EUR1bn ($1.2bn) for parent company Axa, if it reaches a sale price of a potential EUR4bn-EUR5bn, according to Berenberg analysts.

It was first reported late on Friday that the French mutual was considering the move, and is being advised by the investment bank Rothschild & Cie.
