Generali Q1 P&C profit up 10% as lockdown measures suppress claims

Operating profits in Generali’s P&C division jumped by 10% in the first quarter to an above-forecast EUR690mn ($841mn) as the technical underwriting result improved.

At a group level, operating profit was up 11% to EUR1.6bn, with net profit rising sevenfold to EUR802mn, after the prior-year quarter was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
