Hail was the driver behind multi-billion US thunderstorm losses in April, Aon said in its monthly Global Catastrophe Recap.

The broker estimated total economic losses from US severe weather would be above $3.5bn, with much of the damage from some of the most significant storms expected to be covered by insurance.
