One of the key developments in recent months in the more transparent US P&C market has been an increasingly clear tapering off of rate increases after two years of acceleration.

The first signs started to emerge in data covering the fourth quarter of last year (although the picture was mixed) and the latest disclosures relating to the first quarter paint a more unambiguous picture of decelerating momentum.
