The Australian government has committed A$600mn ($463mn) to a programme of disaster preparation and mitigation managed by the newly established National Recovery and Resilience Agency (NRRA).

The agency will support local communities in their response to large scale natural disasters, providing relief and recovery in the aftermath of events, and also spearheading initiatives to manage future events and climate change.
