Allianz has expanded plans to phase out carbon-based businesses from its underwriting and investment portfolio in response to scientific advice urging a faster reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions.

The carrier will not insure mining companies that plan new coal mines or generate more than 25% of revenues from coal mining from 2023, with the same deadline applying to energy companies that build new coal-fired power plants.
