Gallagher is already deep into talks and conducting due diligence on the Aon/Willis remedy-package assets as it takes advantage of the restrictive criteria put in place by the European Commission (EC) around which companies can bid for Willis Re and the Western European insurance broking business, this publication understands.

Sources said that Gallagher is already well down the road on moves to acquire the businesses, and is the runaway favourite to acquire all the assets that have to be divested to satisfy the regulator.
