The UK government has launched a limited compensation scheme for live events cancelled due to Covid-19 in the first sign of potential state-backed contingency cover.

The compensation scheme will apply to events taking place as part of the government’s pilot scheme for the return of mass gatherings, including the FA Cup final and the World Snooker Championships.
