John Edwards exits Aon Benfield
One of Aon Benfield's most senior retro producers, John Edwards, has resigned, The Insurance Insider can reveal. Edwards was one of the two most senior executives at the London-based retro team now headed up by Danny Burrows. The retro broker was at Benfield when it was acquired by Aon in a $1.3bn deal. Industry insiders always hypothesised that senior management would find it difficult to accommodate everyone after the takeover, with enough talent on each side to fill every place in its "First XI".
New chairman for Lexicon
Lexicon Partners, the kingmaker behind many London market and UK (re)insurance tie-ups, has replaced its retiring chairman with Sir Laurie Magnus. Cliff Hampton, the founding chairman of the London-based corporate financiers, is stepping down, although he will remain as vice chairman.
Ramage joins Whittington
Lloyd's managing agent Whittington Capital Management has appointed Jim Ramage as an independent non-executive director. Ramage's 42-year career in the Lloyd's and London market included roles as deputy CEO of Guy Carpenter and director of JLT Reinsurance Brokers.
Glacier replaces departing CFO
Glacier Reinsurance has appointed Andreas Zdrenyk as chief financial officer and chief operating officer, replacing Glenn Campbell, who resigned following the company's decision to go into run-off. Zdrenyk is currently chief risk officer at Glacier.
Founder Reeth to leave Validus
One of Validus's founding executives, George Reeth, is stepping down from the board of the Bermudian (re)insurer. Five years after he helped company chairman and CEO Ed Noonan found Validus, president and deputy chairman Reeth has signalled his intention to leave the business at the end of November. Reeth, 53, is an industry veteran of more than 30 years and was chairman and CEO of the North American operations of Willis Re from 2000 to 2005.
Allied move for Brooks
Andy Brooks has joined the Allied World Europe team as international property manager. Brooks was most recently head of insurance at Endurance UK.
Xchanging has appointed Ken Lever as chief financial officer from 5 October, joining from Swiss-based technology Numonyx BV, where he was chief financial officer and senior vice president.
Hardy adds two underwriters
Specialist (re)insurer Hardy Underwriting Bermuda has recruited two underwriters to strengthen the non-marine property division of its Lloyd's Syndicate 382. David Haslam will develop a book of US and international property binding authorities. Myles Dytor will work with Steve Cross on the global construction and engineering account, and Tony Hepburn within the direct and facultative account. Dytor joins from HSBC Insurance Brokers.
Brit promotes division directors
(Re)insurer Brit Insurance has promoted three staff to newly created positions. Tom Rowley, currently North American property underwriter, becomes the divisional director of property, space and terrorism and Christiern Dart, currently financial property class underwriter becomes the divisional director of property facilities. Personal accident underwriter Andy Bowers takes up the role of divisional director for the accident and health division. All three will continue to report to John King, short tail portfolio director.
Analytic firm tackles Oliver
Risk analysis firm Sciemus has recruited former All Black rugby captain Anton Oliver to spearhead operations in the property and renewable energy source divisions. Oliver has degrees in finance and physical education along with a Masters from Oxford University in biodiversity.
Integro elects chair
Former White Mountains leader John ("Jack") Byrne was elected chairman of Integro to succeed the late co-founder and chairman, Robert Clements.
Son John Clements was elected vice chairman. He is the managing partner of investment company Tara Partners - a firm that was co-founder of Integro and Ironshore.
Willis Re boosts team
Willis Re has rebranded its operations with the tagline 'Managing Extremes' and signed up three staff from Aon Benfield to its London-based analytics team.
David Simmons becomes managing director, international enterprise risk management.
Linley Ah-Chung has been appointed managing director, analytics, for Willis Re Specialty.
Matthew Eagle has been named executive director of Willis Re, and is charged with leading the delivery of analytics services in Continental Europe.
Willis Research follows suit
Meanwhile, Willis Research Network (WRN) has appointed insurance veteran Gero Michel as managing director. He joins from Endurance Specialty in Bermuda.
Tricia Holly Davis joins as WRN communications director from freelance roles with the Sunday Times, The Economist and Financial Times.
Within Willis Re Analytics, Ian Cook, chief actuary at International & Specialty has been appointed managing director. Andrew Mitchell, who leads International & Specialty Catastrophe Modelling, has also been appointed managing director.
Chaucer names COO
Lloyd's group Chaucer Holdings has appointed David Mead to the new role of chief operating officer at its managing agency Chaucer Syndicates, effective 1 November. He joins from Willis, where he was managing director of group operations.
Mitsui signs trio for Lloyd's
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Underwriting at Lloyd's has made three appointments: Mike Watson has been made reinsurance manager, moving from Willis Re where he was an account executive; Ajay Gupta is business planning manager, joining from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty; and Mark Brock joins from Chartis division Cat Excess.
