AmTrust hits record high

AmTrust's share price hit an all-time high of $47.10 last Thursday (22 May) as the carrier closed up 4.44 percent for the week.

Shares in its smaller rival Meadowbrook also made a further recovery last week with an advance of 6.15 percent, pushing its share price back up to pre-2014 levels.

In the same period, the carrier's stock rating was upgraded from "underperform" to "neutral" by investment research firm Zacks, which cited Meadowbrook's strong Q1 earnings.

But across the Atlantic share performance was weaker for London-listed (re)insurers Lancashire and Novae, highlighted by declines of 4.61 percent and 2.36 percent respectively last week.

Investor confidence in RSA also waned after the UK insurer's share price fell by 2.7 percent last week, despite the announcement of a £238mn disposal of its Canadian insurance brokerage Noraxis to acquisitive US intermediary AJ Gallagher.
