Florida’s state legislators will next week debate how best to patch up their ailing insurance sector to see through the hurricane season that officially kicks off in a fortnight.

And much as some reinsurers might argue against the “band aid” reforms of extending the state reinsurance programme, it seems inevitable that this will be on the cards.
