Aon-Willis offer to sell South Africa short-term broking to complete deal

South African regulators have recommended to approve the proposed merger of Aon and Willis Towers Watson, provided the merging parties divest of the short-term insurance broking business in South Africa.

The Competition Commission said the proposed merger was likely to result in the “substantial lessening and/or prevention of competition” in reinsurance broking, and there would also be a “substantial loss of competition” in short-term business.
