Willis Re has parted ways with Conan Ward who was chairman of its US and Bermuda specialty business, The Insurance Insider understands.

Ward will leave the company with immediate effect.

The executive joined Willis Re in the fourth quarter of 2017, as revealed by this publication.

Willis Re Specialty is led globally by London-based Graeme Moore.

Before joining Willis Re, Ward had been out of the market since resigning as the head of Hamilton Insurance Group's US operations in October 2015 after 18 months in the role.

He had spent three years as CEO of Validus Re before departing in 2012. Prior to that role he had been an executive vice president (EVP) and chief underwriting officer of Validus Holdings from 2006.

Ward joined Validus from Bermudian rival Axis Capital where he spent four years as deputy CEO of the reinsurance business following its formation by John Charman in 2001.

Prior to his time at Axis he was at Guy Carpenter.

The move comes after this publication reported yesterday that Scott Rubinstein, a Philadephia-based EVP focused on a mutual client base, has resigned to return to Guy Carpenter.

Willis Re declined to comment.
