Steve McGill’s broking start-up McGill & Partners has appointed James Camps-Harris as a partner, The Insurance Insider can reveal.
The senior broker will move to the business from Willis Towers Watson where he held the position of executive director.
Sources said Camps-Harris specialises in a range of aviation business, including commercial airlines and manufacturer’s liability cover.
He is understood to have a substantial notice period and is unlikely to start work at the operation before the year-end.
Camps-Harris is the latest aviation to change jobs specialist following the appointment of Giles Wilkinson last month.
Wilkinson, who was most recently chief client officer for aviation at Marsh, joined McGill & Partners shortly after former Willis broker Jeremy Kinsey.
The hires came after McGill & Partners in May hired Joe Trotti to lead its aviation division.
McGill & Partners and BGC are both looking to disrupt the $1bn-premium commercial aviation market as they lure senior aerospace brokers away from the dominant players.
BGC announced the launch of its aviation operation with the hire of former Marsh global aviation CEO Marcel Chad, following this up with the appointment of ex-Willis specialty executive Philip Smaje.
Earlier this month, The Insurance Insider revealed that McGill & Partners has signed a deal with Marsh to take on renewal rights for books of primarily wholesale business acquired as part of the JLT deal.
The books are mostly third-party wholesale or business otherwise produced by independent brokers that Marsh stands to lose as a result of channel conflict.
McGill & Partners declined to comment on the appointment.
Willis declined to comment.
