AIG hires Chubb upstream energy head Langdon

Chubb global head of upstream energy James Langdon will move to AIG to become UK energy head in a role encompassing upstream energy, downstream energy, mining, power and construction, The Insurance Insider can reveal.

Langdon, who was been with Chubb for more than 16 years, will report to AIG's head of energy and construction Gordon Browne.

Langdon is currently on gardening leave and his start date is yet to be confirmed.

The executive joined Ace in 2003 as an underwriting assistant within the energy team, worked his way up to Lloyd’s marketing manager for energy before being appointed to the global head of upstream energy role in 2015 when Ace acquired Chubb.

Chubb restructured its energy department last year following Roger Giddings’ departure from the business. Matthew Hardy replaced him as executive vice president of global energy and Riaz Thanduparakkal was promoted to product head of Chubb global markets energy to take over Hardy’s role.

There has been a lot of movement in the energy market with Axa XL yesterday announcing that Steven Farr would replace Steve Hawkins as global head of upstream energy following Hawkins’ move to Convex.

Insurance broker NFP recently appointed Cran Fraser from Alliant as vice president, energy and marine practice leader and Sompo International hired Talbot head of marine and energy James McDonald to lead its upstream energy business.

Chubb and AIG declined to comment.
