Onshore US cat losses mounted to $4.4bn in Q2, according to figures from Property Claim Services, with the figure now above the long-term average of $3.6bn for the fourth year out of the last five.
Although well short of the record $7.1bn recorded in 2008, the tally - which has potential to deteriorate from initial estimates - is in line with the second quarter of 2009 and adds to the $2.6bn initial cat losses recorded in Q1 (see table).
