More than nine months after the earthquake that devastated parts of Chile, reinsurance broker Aon Benfield has estimated an ultimate industry insured loss figure of $8.5bn.
Initial loss estimates from catastrophe modelling firms and reinsurers of between $8bn and $10bn have held up well, in contrast to previous quake loss estimates.
In May Aon Benfield estimated that the total loss would fall within the $6bn-$8bn range.
