Global insurer Swiss Re has urged governments to make greater use of the skills and capacity of the global (re)insurance market and warned against the state participating in the provision of non-life insurance for natural catastrophe hazards.
"States should leverage private insurance skills and their growing capacity where possible to conserve resources and mitigate risks. States should retain only the portion of their risks that are truly uninsurable," the reinsure said in its latest Sigma report.
