Sustained wind speeds in New Orleans top 50mph
With the centre of Hurricane Isaac still 70 miles south of New Orleans, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) has reported that sustained wind speeds of 54 miles per hour have been registered, with gusts reaching 68 miles per hour.
The information was released by the NHC at 1am Central Daylight Time, or 6am Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), today (29 August).
