Private insurers could play a greater role in the provision of flood insurance in the US, according to an academic study.
Although there are still considerable barriers to having an entirely privatised flood market, private insurers could sell flood insurance as a complement to the government-backed National Flood Insurance Programme (NFIP), according to academics at the Wharton Risk Centre at the University of Pennsylvania.
