Stanford executive receives three years for obstruction

A former senior executive at the collapsed Stanford bank has been sentenced to three years in prison for obstructing the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s investigation into convicted fraudster Allen Stanford's $7bn Ponzi scheme.

Laura Pendergest-Holt, former chief investment officer of the Stanford Financial Group, was sentenced on 13 September by US District Judge David Hittner in Houston in a plea agreement reached with federal prosecutors.

She had pleaded guilty in June to one count of obstruction of justice...
