Run-off insurers stuck with asbestos liabilities
A UK Supreme Court ruling against four legacy insurers has opened the floodgates for thousands of asbestos-related claims on employers' liability (EL) policies, in a move welcomed by the live UK insurance market.
The 28 March court judgement from a panel of five Supreme Court justices upheld the argument that insurance claims relating to asbestos-linked mesothelioma should be covered by liability policies in force at the time the employee was exposed to asbestos.
