RSA's £5bn all-cash offer for Aviva's UK, Irish and Canadian general insurance businesses is a "bold move" but "ultimately unlikely to succeed", according to a number of analysts.
Nonetheless, the Andy Haste-led UK insurer is showing all the signs of preparing for a battle to persuade Aviva to sell its non-life operations.
