Q3 wrap: cats dominate while underlying picture worsens

P&C (re)insurance companies suffered perhaps the heaviest ever cat quarter on record in the three months to 30 September 2017, as the active hurricane season along with two earthquakes in Mexico generated billions of dollars of claims.

Consequently, most of the companies covered by The Insurance Insider generated a loss for Q3 2017, with Bermudian carriers seeing up to six quarters' worth of operating earnings completely wiped out by their third quarter loss.
