Meteorologists warn of first signs of Atlantic storms

The next 48 hours is likely to see the formation of the first named storm of the season, according to the US National Hurricane Centre in Miami.

In a bulletin issued overnight, forecasters said that there was a 60 percent chance that a weather system currently moving over the Atlantic would develop into a tropical cyclone.

The weather system was 1,025 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
