Only months after being trumped by German insurance group HDI-Talanx in the auction for Bloemers Nassau, Markel has raided the Dutch insurer/underwriting agency by hiring 20 key staff to launch its Netherlands business.
A score of Bloemers' key staff have recently resigned to join Markel International Netherlands - a subsidiary launched in September that specialises in professional indemnity, directors' and officers' (D&O) and engineering insurance.
