Hurricane Sandy losses mount as East coast threat grows
Hurricane Sandy is shaping up to be a major threat to the East coast of the US as it barrels across the Bahamas on a collision course with a pressure trough from the west that could significantly expand the storm's wind field.
In what is being dubbed "Frankenstorm", the hurricane could merge with a winter storm to create a system that forecasters have warned may bring hurricane strength winds and severe flooding to Mid Atlantic or Northeastern states.
