Hedge funds pursue PXRE losses

A US judge has granted 19 hedge funds leave to re-submit their action against failed Bermudian reinsurer PXRE after he dismissed it on a technicality.

District Judge Richard Sullivan allowed Anegada Master Fund and 18 others to file a new version of their complaint against PXRE's successor, Argo Group, alleging that PXRE misrepresented the extent of its losses from hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

They claim that PXRE understated its hit from the 2005 hurricanes in order to rebuild its balance...
