Cat modelling firm AIR Worldwide has published a mid-range loss estimate for Hurricane Sandy of $11bn, twice that of its rival Eqecat.
The public statement on 30 October comes after it gave private guidance to clients estimating a loss of around $10bn.
But on the same day, Eqecat reduced its initial loss estimate of $5bn-$10bn to $5bn - half the AIR loss estimate - with economic damage of $10bn.
