ExxonMobil could be facing a $1bn+ legal payout after a Maryland jury ordered the oil major to pay punitive damages to the victims of a gasoline spill in 2006.
The Baltimore County Circuit Court verdict comes on top of its decision to award $495mn in compensation damages to those affected by the spill.
The court has not yet disclosed the full amount of punitive damage, but The Baltimore Sun reported that the total bill could be around $1.5bn.
