What a difference a year makes - this time last year, as the financial crisis went global, credit spreads were ballooning, banks were crumbling and insurance companies were suffering heavy losses on the more exotic ends of their portfolios.

Fast forward to 2009 and we find ourselves in a period that could not be more benign - it might be a little dull in comparison to a year ago, but one suspects the average (re)insurance CFO would take dull and...
