The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) highlighted the important role of microinsurance "as a means of socio-economic development" at its annual conference in Rio de Janeiro late last month.
In panel discussions, the conference heard of the importance of financial inclusion for low income populations in developing countries, and the need to support access to insurance by "promoting successful regulatory, supervisory and policy approaches".
