London-listed collateralised retrocessionaire Catco Reinsurance
Opportunities Fund has reported a 5.3 percent increase in net asset
value to $357.9mn for the first half of the year as investment
gains on its 2012 portfolio offset loss creep from 2011
catastrophes.
However, ordinary shareholders who invested at the firm's
launch took a net loss of 3.2 percent over the half year after the
company fully wrote off its exposure to New Zealand and Japanese
earthquake claims, as previously reported.
